Computing

Cultural Capital

Cultural capital encompasses the array of skills and experiences essential for children to flourish in the broader world. Our computing curriculum is more than just coding and digital literacy; it’s a gateway to a wealth of enriching experiences with cross-curricular connections both within our school community and beyond.

Enrichment Opportunities:

  • Learning beyond the classroom
  • Using Virtual Reality apps
  • STEM days
  • Online Safety days
  • Designing and constructing digital products
  • 3D printing
  • Developing good etiquette when using digital technology safely
  • Tech Club/ Video Editing Club
  • Engaging effectively with new digital technologies.
  • Celebration songs (such as Mother’s Day) are regularly filmed and shared with parents and families.

National Curriculum

The national curriculum for computing aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • Can understand and apply the fundamental principles of computer science, including logic, algorithms, data representation, and communication.
  • Can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.
  • Can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems.
  • Are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.

COMPUTING

Intent

At Belgrave, we are dedicated to providing our students with an engaging and comprehensive curriculum that prepares them for the ever-evolving digital landscape. Our approach to computing is centred around equipping children with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in a technology-driven world. In this rapidly advancing digital era, mastering computing skills is essential for empowering our students to adapt, innovate, and thrive in an increasingly interconnected and technology-driven society.

By providing each student in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 with their individual digital device, we’ve broadened access to innovative learning experiences and empowered students to become confident and creative users of technology. Our goal is to inspire a lifelong passion for technology and equip students with the skills they need to succeed in the digital age. Join us on this exciting journey of discovery and exploration in computing!
