Computing
Cultural Capital
Cultural capital encompasses the array of skills and experiences essential for children to flourish in the broader world. Our computing curriculum is more than just coding and digital literacy; it’s a gateway to a wealth of enriching experiences with cross-curricular connections both within our school community and beyond.
Enrichment Opportunities:
- Learning beyond the classroom
- Using Virtual Reality apps
- STEM days
- Online Safety days
- Designing and constructing digital products
- 3D printing
- Developing good etiquette when using digital technology safely
- Tech Club/ Video Editing Club
- Engaging effectively with new digital technologies.
- Celebration songs (such as Mother’s Day) are regularly filmed and shared with parents and families.
National Curriculum
The national curriculum for computing aims to ensure that all pupils:
- Can understand and apply the fundamental principles of computer science, including logic, algorithms, data representation, and communication.
- Can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.
- Can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems.
- Are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.

In this rapidly advancing digital era, mastering computing skills is essential for empowering our students to adapt, innovate, and thrive in an increasingly interconnected and technology-driven society.
By providing each student in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 with their individual digital device, we’ve broadened access to innovative learning experiences and empowered students to become confident and creative users of technology. Our goal is to inspire a lifelong passion for technology and equip students with the skills they need to succeed in the digital age. Join us on this exciting journey of discovery and exploration in computing!
COMPUTING
Key Knowledge
At Belgrave, we are dedicated to offering a curriculum that empowers all learners to navigate the digital world safely, confidently, and creatively. Our approach encompasses three key strands: computer science, information technology, and digital literacy, ensuring that students gain a comprehensive understanding of technology’s role in our lives.
COMPUTING
Cross Curriculuar Links
Incorporating computing into various subjects amplifies learning and reinforces skills across the curriculum:
Expressing creativity through digital artistry and design, from intricate drawings to CAD projects.
Exploring maps, coordinates, and geographical features through interactive platforms like Google Earth.
Researching historical figures and events, and presenting findings through multimedia presentations.
Applying mathematical concepts through data analysis, visualisation, and problem-solving using digital tools.
Experimenting with music composition and production using digital platforms like GarageBand.
Leveraging technology for self-assessment and skill improvement through video analysis of performances in activities like gymnastics.
Engaging with digital texts and multimedia resources enhances reading comprehension and vocabulary acquisition.
Utilising digital tools for data collection, analysis, and presentation in scientific investigations.
Crafting digital compositions, from persuasive leaflets to imaginative comics, hones writing skills in diverse formats.
